About Us

The History of Tarponville

Tarponville was established by Jim and Ann Diberardinis in 2001. Jim and Ann have been a part of the community since 1989. Ann formed and started the non-profit "Talamanca Dolphin Foundation" in Manzanillo in 1998. This lead to visitation from student groups and internships of students and the need to train local guides in conducting tours for the Dolphin. These are the some of the same guides that still work for Tarponville now. Jim could not resist the temptation of putting a hook into these massive Tarpon that he was seeing durning the the dolphin tours. Tarponville has become the only full service fishing lodge in the area let a lone the entire southern part of the Carribean. Spending years training guides and exploring local waters, Jim and Mark have pioneered and developed what is now known as the most pristine tarpon fishery in Costa Rica.

Tarponville was bought and taken over by Capt. Mark Martin and his wife Stacie Martin in the beginning of 2014 which give Jim and Ann more time to spend with there new grand kids and to allow them to start enjoying the "retired life". Since that time, Giuliano and Alex Beck have come on as partners with Mark in the transformation of taking Tarponville to the next level of complete guest experience.
